Diagnostics and Production with State-of-the-Art Technology
The IOZK has two fully equipped laboratories. One laboratory is dedicated to producing the personalized vaccine IO-VAC™ in a specialized GMP production laboratory. The other laboratory focuses on immunological diagnostics and research.
Qualified staff members and a specialized clean room laboratory where interference through foreign particles is excluded are two basic requirements for specialized research into and production of individualized immunotherapy. While we produce the patient-specific vaccine IO-VAC™ in our GMP Production Laboratory research and special immunological analyses take place in the Diagnostics Laboratory.
The GMP Production Laboratory has to be completely sterile. This is achieved through an over-pressure system with material and personnel locks. A continuous flow of air to the outside prevents contaminants from entering the rooms through the air and thus contaminating the cell cultures. Together with state-of-the-art equipment, this complex setup conforms to the highest hygiene requirements.
The highly-qualified and specialized team works according to the regulations of the German Medicines Act and the European GMP (good manufacturing practice) guidelines.
To produce the patient-specific vaccine IO-VAC®, our staff members isolate a type of white blood cell, called monocytes, from the patient’s blood. Over five to seven days, these are cultured and differentiated into dendritic cells.
The IOZK Laboratory is the only laboratory in Europe that has received the regulatory approval to produce a personalized vaccine for fighting cancer from dendritic cells using an oncolytic virus and the patient’s tumor material.
In the Diagnostic Laboratory, the blood samples are analysed and various immunological tests are carried out.
