Tumour immunologist with specialisation in brain tumours
Stefaan Van Gool MD. PhD., is a specialist in paediatric haemato-oncology with a focus on brain tumours. From 2001 to 2004, he was Chief Clinical Investigator at the Scientific Research Fund Flanders. Between 2006 and 2016, he held a full professorship at the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Leuven. From 2012 to 2015, he was head of the Paediatric Immunology Laboratory. He is the author of nearly 200 scientific articles in international journals.
In recognition of his scientific achievements, he was awarded a number of honours:
1995 Schweisguth Prize of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology
1996 Nycomed Prize of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology
1998 Rik en Nel Wouters Foundation Prize for Cancer Research (with Ludwig Van den Hove)
From 2005 to 2009 he was the coordinator of the European Expert Group on High Grade Glioma
Since 2008, he has been a member of the Supreme Health Court in Belgium
1996 Nycomed Prize of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology

From 2005 to 2009 he was the coordinator of the European Expert Group on High Grade Glioma
Since 2008, he has been a member of the Supreme Health Court in Belgium
From 2014 to 2017, he served as co-chair of the Brain Tumour Working Group of the European Society for Paediatric Oncology.
At the IOZK, he is the head of the medical team and is responsible for the planning and implementation of the IOZK immunotherapy. In drug manufacturing, he acts as a Qualified Person (GMP) and Responsible Medical Person.
